A price list is unfortunately not available for tattoos. The price of a tattoo consists of the effort, time, size, motif, and execution. More detailed prices can be made as soon as we have a good idea of how your design will look. When we schedule a fixed appointment we will ask you for a deposit of 50 Euros, which will later be credited to the tattoo.

DOES TATTOO ANANSI ALLOW WALK-IN TATTOOS?

Often we are booked out for months. However, it happens now and then when we have some time before/after a large session. So it’s best to call ahead or just come by. If everything fits, we’ll gladly slide you into our schedule.

YOU WANT A TATTOO BUT YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU WANT. CAN TATTOO ANANSI HELP YOU DECIDE?

No. We can’t know what you want if you don’t show us what your tattoo should look like, or what art direction you’re aiming for. We are more than willing to help make suggestions, but you yourself must imagine what would best suit on your body. You need to be able to visually express yourself with us and provide us 1-3 examples of what you really like. Only then can we make your design so that you not only get your desired tattoo – but we exceed your expectations with the implementation.

CAN YOU CHOOSE YOUR TATTOO ARTIST AT TATTOO ANANSI?

Yes, very gladly. Depending on the possibility and availability, you can and you should know from whom you would like to have your tattoo done by. But of course we’ll recommend you an artist who suits you and your idea best.

HOW LONG ARE THE WAITING TIMES AT TATTOO ANANSI?

Waiting times vary by artist. We try to keep the time within an acceptable limit by often inviting guest artists to visit us – this tends to work very well based on our experience. However some colleagues are not always on site, so it’s best to ask us directly in our shop.

DO YOU NEED A DRAWING WHEN YOU COME TO US?

You do not need to show us a complete drawing or a painting – but please come to us with exact ideas. Of course, if you can sketch or express yourself visually, that is most welcome. The more input we have from you, the more we can help you.

HOW EARLY SHOULD YOU BE FOR THE APPOINTMENT?

You do not have to camp in front of our shop, it is sufficient enough if you’re punctual at the agreed time!

BUT DOES IT REALLY HURT SO MUCH?

Every person feels a different level of pain, which can fluctuate even daily. In general, the response is better if you are well rested and arrive to your appointment with a full stomach. The part of the body you decide to have tattooed will also have a big influence on the expected pain. For example, if you run your hand over your skin, you will notice that the inside of your forearm is much more sensitive to touch than the outer upper arm. Basically, areas with many bones underneath tend to hurt more than those with more body tissue underneath. If you really want to have your tattoo, don’t worry too much about the expected pain … so far no one we’ve know couldn’t bear the pain…and these weren’t hardcore people.

ARE THERE ANY TATTOO REQUIREMENTS?

Yes, there are requirements for tattoos. We don’t accept anyone under 18. Not even with parents’ consent. In addition, we reserve the right to refuse tattoos (we also see this as a protection of the customer):

  • which are rashly decided
  • with extreme political or religious background.
  • Body parts that are immediately visible and that cannot be covered if necessary. (Neck, hands, etc.) We tattoo these body parts only when there is no space left on the body.
  • Body parts where we know that the end result is simply not optimal. (Sole of the foot, between/on the fingers, toes, etc.)
  • If the motif has a size that is too small and purely optically does not fit in the place.
  • At misbehavior

Do I need a consultation?

We do not offer online or phone consultation. A tattoo is forever and we want to offer you the best advice possible. The best way to your appointment to come to our shop in person. Personal consultations are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11-12 o’clock and 19-20 o’clock. If you live outside of Munich  or abroad please use our booking form and describe the project as accurately as possible, the place where the tattoo is planned to be, and send us 1-3 images of what you have in mind.

DO WE DO SMALL OR HAND/ FINGER TATTOOS?

This is very important! If your tattoo idea is too small, we cannot optimally work out the details. Depending on the subject, a minimum size is required. A tattoo should be recognized even after years. Getting fewer motifs that are bigger and clearer make more sense. As a rule, tattoo ink runs a little under the skin over the years, and tattoos that are too small only look like a dark spot after a few years. Fingers and body parts which are always visible and which are not covered, are tattooed only if there is no other space left on the body. This also applies to body parts where we know that the end result is simply not optimal. (Sole of the foot, between/on the fingers, toes, etc.)

CAN I HAVE THE SAME EXACT TATTOO AS THE ONE ON THE PHOTO I FOUND?

We do not copy tattoos. However we can work out your own template based on your idea with small changes.

CAN’T WE JUST CLEAR THIS BY E-MAIL OR TELEPHONE?

Your tattoo is forever. The agreement is that this is discussed best in a personal conversation. We can also judge everything, the size, the time required. Therefore, please come to our meeting times: Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11-12h or 19-20h. If you do not live in Munich or live far away or abroad please use our contact form including the job description, desired date, and pictures of the motif to make an appointment.

HYGIENE?

Every reputable studio will answer all questions regarding cleanliness and sterility, and will show you the workrooms as well as the sterilization equipment. Make sure when you’re looking for a tattoo studio that you find pictures of it being clean and tidy. We always answer all hygiene questions and you can come by our studio at any time to check out our clean and neat environment.

WHERE CAN I GET A MOTIF/DESIGN?

The way to finding your own motif is different for everyone. With today’s tattoo technique, almost every motif or image can be transferred to the skin. You should remember, however, that a larger image with clear lines will certainly work better than a tiny tattoo overloaded with details. So if your tattoo artist advises you to increase the size of your motif, then you should generally follow the advice.

CAN YOU MAKE A DRAWING OR SUBMIT A TEMPLATE?

We sketch, draw and make a draft exclusively for a paid and agreed date. So you must first arrange a fixed appointment. In the consultation we will discuss everything with you, and will have everything ready for you for your appointment. Often the final motif is somewhat changed in the appointment itself by you- and even if all this still needs to be discussed, we’ll gladly be a part of it. Finally, you are involved in the finalization and in the final agreement. Often we work freehand and individually, we sketch your motif at your appointment directly on the body. So we don’t send templates or make drawings on the spot – but only for the agreed tattoo date.

WHEN CAN I GET AN APPOINTMENT?

Waiting times vary depending on the artist. We try to keep the times within acceptable limits by inviting our guest artists to visit us often – this works well from experience. But do keep in mind some colleagues are not always on site, so it’s best to ask us directly at our studio.

WHAT’S THE PROCESS?

If you have drawings, photos or scraps of ideas, bring everything with you to the consultation. The more input you can give us, the more precise we can work on something tailored for you. If your idea is not what you would like it to be we will keep working on an alternative until you’re fully satisfied.

IS IT SAFE FOR ME TO GET A TATTOO? CAN YOU BE TATTOOED WHEN YOU TAKE BLOOD-DILUTING MEDICATIONS OR HAVE SKIN PROBLEMS?

Unfortunately, there is no universal valid statement: every single case must be evaluated by the attending physician, who knows about the course of the disease and the medication; generalized assessments would be irresponsible. Tattoos during a pregnancy are a taboo. No tattoo is urgent enough not to wait nine months.

WHAT ABOUT MOTIFS FROM INDIGENOUS PEOPLES?

People who decide on tattoos from indigenous people such as the Maori from New Zealand, the Iban of Borneo, the people from India, Philippines, Samoa, should be well informed in advance. In general, the people from the South Sea are more sensitive to their intellectual property, while many others are often extremely pleased when foreigners wear their motifs.

WHAT DO TATTOOS DO IN MAGNET RESONANCE TOMOGRAPHS?

Tabloid media spread the false news that tattoos burn on MRT. Magnetic resonance imaging and radio waves are used to create sectional images of the body in MRI scans. An investigation showed almost no side effects. A survey showed that the patients surveyed had no problems with their tattoos. The conclusion from doctors: Existing tattoos should not prevent anyone from undergoing a necessary MRI scan.

WHY DOES THE TATTOO START TO ITCH?

When a fresh tattoo starts to itch after a few days, it is quite normal and just a symptom of the healing process.

CAN A TATTOO ARTIST NEARBY TATTOO ME AT A CHEAPER PRICE?

Quality has its price and quality work is not for nothing. When they come fast and cheap, no tattoos are going to be good. If you’re lucky, you will actually find a suitable tattoo artist in your area – especially in big cities, the range of first-class tattoo artists are great. But a good tattoo artist – does not agree to fast or cheap tattoos.

CAN YOU COVER OVER OLD INK IN WHITE?

Theoretically yes. One color can be covered with another color. Here, it depends on the layer thickness, and how massive the tattoo artist can pack the white color in the skin. The lower color may ‘break through’ the white layer over time.

CAN I HAVE A TATTOO IF I HAVE DARK SKIN?

With light brown skin you can tattoo almost anything (everything will look darker). For darker skin it is advisable to do without colors. Black & Gray only. For very dark skin, very clear, massive, black tribals are best.

WHAT DOES A TATTOO LOOK LIKE WHEN I’M OLD?

Simple answer: Very cool. Every line may not be razor-sharp anymore, but you’re guaranteed to be the coolest person in your retirement home.

CAN YOU COVER UP SCARS?

In principle, this is possible. However, the scar must be healed very well, and must not be red. There are different types of scars: those of abrasions, superficial cuts, surgery, vaccinations, hard scar tissue, soft scar tissue, flat and raised scars. Every type of scar absorbs color very differently, which makes the technical part of tattooing very demanding. Even the transition from the skin to the scar can be difficult. Here you need a very experienced tattoo artist, who can adjust to different skin types within a tattoo.

DOES GETTING A TATTOO CAUSE SKIN CANCER?

No. Tattoos do not increase the risk of skin cancer according to recent studies. In January 2014, more than 150 dermatologists and professional tattoo artists from different countries met to discuss the matter. Here’s the conclusion: out of all the cases, you could not see a single case in which skin cancer actually came from a tattoo. Klaus Hoffmann, chief dermatologist at the Ruhr University Bochum, was the one who led the specialist conference.a

WHAT DOES THE WORD TRIBAL MEAN?

The English term Tribal Tattoos refers to the tattoos of indigenous people. In the 90s, the Western tattoo scene discovered the ornamental-abstract motifs of the primitive people from Borneo, the Philippines, Polynesia and India, which were referred to as tribal art. Today, the term tribal is used both for the original motifs of indigenous peoples, as well as fantasy ornaments based on them.

CAN WE NOW TATTOO THE INTERIOR OF OUR HANDS OR NOT?

Tattoos on the palm are not common requests for tattoo artists. In most cases, such tattoos fade out, except for a few unsightly dark spots that do not look good. If individual lines remain, they often have unsightly gradients. However, there are exceptions. A few specialists have the talent to ink hand tattoos with good durability. Dotwork and tattooing by hand seem – as of now – to bring quite good and durable results. But one thing is for sure: You do not get a good, durable palm tattoo with a normal tattoo artist, you will need a specialist who is very well versed in tattoos for this difficult part of the body.

DOES A TATTOO ALWAYS NEED TO BE TOUCHED-UP?

No. Normally, a tattoo should be completely finished once the whole motif has been completed. There may be exceptions, for example if something goes wrong during the healing phase, and color comes out due to the damage to the tattoo. Even top tattoo artists have difficulties in getting a uniform black coloration for the first time round and sometimes have to ink again. However, if a tattoo artist automatically arranges for another session after every appointment that is a strong indication that he/she simply cannot tattoo. Should a touch-up be required with us – please come over and show us your tattoo – only then can we decide when and what needs to be retouched. If your tattoo needs to be redone for lack of care you will have to bear the cost of the touch-up yourself.

DO I HAVE TO MAKE A CUSTOM DESIGN?

No. For example, if you want an anchor theme and see a nice template in the studio, there’s nothing wrong with getting that template tattooed. An anchor is and remains an anchor and does not necessarily have to be edited.
